I'm a sucker for airshow aircraft, old and new. To me they're the big celebrities of the aviation world, with unique and recognizable shapes, sizes and liveries that always spark interest from enthusiasts. So when I can get a chance to keep miniature representations of the airshow stars I've seen gracing the sky in person, you bet I'm going to take it!

For my first blog post I've chosen to write about the 1/72 diecast model of Sea Fury T.20 VX281, an aircraft operated by the soon-to-be-disbanding Royal Navy Historic Flight; but thankfully she will still be in the hands of Navy Wings to fly for years to come, or at least I hope so. I found mine at the Fly Navy charity stall at last year's Jersey International Air Display, where I picked it up alongside a Sea Vixen and a Swordfish which I will also review in due time.

The miniature is a humble recreation of the real warbird which makes a great shelf display piece. Interestingly the panel lines on the engine cowling are marked in black, which if you ask me, detracts from the overall look - though it does provide some depth which admittedly makes it look more interesting to look at. The rest of the aircraft has recessed panel lines and rivets that can faintly be seen on the fuselage and wings, which is always nice. The landing gear is stable and supports the aircraft firmly, making it quite tough compared to other models I've seen, but it lacks sufficient detail. Two pilots are included inside the aircraft and while the model comes with a stand, the landing gear is fixed in the extended position and cannot be interchanged. The decal markings are accurate and finely detailed.

In conclusion, this Sea Fury is a 'jack of all trades, master of none' if you can call it that. It has a lot of visually pleasing features but nothing particularly outstanding, though it remains a neat showpiece for any fans of this popular naval fighter. The model is available for £34.99, a fairly modest price for a diecast aircraft that I'm happy to have in my collection!
